Plastic Surgery: It is an addiction???

Does plastic surgery gives an addiction? The answer is absolutely yes.  Plastic surgery addiction falls into a category of addiction known as behavioral or process addiction. They addicted to the physical changes despite any harmful effects.

This phenomenon has been mushrooming nowdays because everyone craving for physical perfection. In 2014, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) reported that Americans spending more than 12 billion dollars on plastic surgery with more than 10 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2014. Michael Edwards, MD, President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery states that the total number of male undergoing cosmetic procedures has skyrocketed by 43% in 2014.

According to board certified New York plastic surgeon, Dr. Sydney Coleman, the reason for this phenomenon happening due to a medical condition called Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). Furthermore, social factors also play a significant role in plastic surgery addiction. Most of the celebrities these days are having physical perfection as they get plastic surgery. For example, Heidi Montag who is an actress and fashion designer gets ten plastic surgery procedures although she is already famous. Many people are obsessed or at least highly interested in this doings because of this tiny minority of people who are famous. They want to become beautiful, attractive and have the same features as their favorite movie star without think about the consequences.

At the root of it all, it is back to that person itself. Although there is no magic lamp to rub on or shining star to wish upon, one should not change to gain others acceptance. Inner beauty is more important than physical beauty as it shines longer. We are what our appearance reflects.

  1. The author used simple language which is easy to understand and she has a good writing skills. There are a lot of statistical evidences to support her writing which is very good as we can get a clear view about the issue. She also stated the title of the person she mentioned so that we know their roles in the society. But, I think, the article contains very few of the author's opinions and thoughts.

  2. For this article that discuss about the issue plastic surgery , it is clear that her point of view is supported by many statements , including statistics from various sources . She have good writting skills and her statements can be understood easily .
I personally agree with the author's point of view where she stated that the people nowadays crave for physical perfection, they can go all out just to look pretty , they even take the risk by undergoing plastic surgery .

Next , I also agree with the author's point in which social factor causes the rise in popularity of plastic surgery , This is because the people are influenced by their gorgeous idols who have undergoned plastic surgery . So , they are willing to follow their idol's step just to look as perfect as their idols.

However , there should be more factors other than the social factor and medical factor . The wealth of a person can drive him or her to go for plastic surgery too , as it can be a symbol of rich .
